Achanarras
Getting There Etc.
The Achanarras quarry can be found about 1km
west of the junction at Mybster. Turn right and go along the
track beside a forestry plantation where you can find a car park. Go
up the hill for about 800 metres and pass a disused farm building to a
gate which is the entrance to the quarry site beside another small
plantation.
The track is on private land and the Country side Code should be observed leaving everything as you find it. The ground can be rough and boggy in parts so heavy shoes or boots are advisable. Eye protectors should be worn if any hammering is to be carried out. Fish can be found by by splitting the slabs from the heaps of flagstone. Power tools arte not allowed on the site. Excavation of the bedrock is also forbidden to prevent damage to the site. More information on the site and for
permission to take away finds can be obtained by contacting Scottish
